How Can I Help?

Library » Conscious Creation » What Did Seth Tell Us?

By Joyce A. Kovelman, Ph.D., Ph.D.

Recently, I’ve started to re-read the Unpublished Seth Material and find it a marvelous addition to the previous information I have studied for more than 30 years. I have always been amazed at the consistency of Seth’s information during the weekly sessions he held with Jane and Rob. And today, many of his “way out,” outrageous and startling concepts have been accepted by growing numbers of scientists and thinkers, globally. Now, debate and discussion on topics of simultaneous time, probable selves, parallel worlds, and “You create your own reality” frequently take place on university campuses and are found in recent books.

Personally, I am particularly drawn to Seth’s concepts of Value Fulfillment, The Practicing Idealist, probable versions of self, chair, idea or book (manifesting matter), and the importance of not turning his ideas and sessions into a Seth Doctrine or Dogma. In my view, these ideas are seminal to any understanding and application of Seth’s ideas. Unfortunately, it is these very same concepts that have sometimes led to competition and conflict among Seth’s students and readers in the past. My hope is to instead, foster greater cooperation and harmony among all of us, thereby encouraging renewed interest, discussion and increased dissemination of his ideas.

None of us are “Authorities” on Seth’s Ideas. In other words, Seth is the Teacher and we, his students. We are all learning how our beliefs, intentions, and perceptions shape and form our reality and experience. We are here discovering how to consciously manipulate and transform Energy into physical experience. Gratefully, Seth has been an excellent teacher, providing exercises, stories and lots of ways to practice and to learn. Further, Seth is always telling us that we must create with integrity, that the journey is more important than the destination, and that the use of inappropriate means does not justify the end. This is the essence of the Practicing Idealist. We cannot gain at another’s expense. Only with honesty and integrity, can we hope to achieve our goals and realize value fulfillment.

We are told that value fulfillment is both growth and evolution, a qualitative rather than a quantitative measure that happens outside of space and time. Indeed, value fulfillment is the very first of several natural laws not only in our Universe, but in all other probable spheres and dimensions of reality.

However, my previous experience revealed that some Seth readers have claimed title to Seth’s knowledge and to the “correct” interpretation of his ideas. Is this not the first step to Dogma, the very thing that Seth cautioned us against? So many “isms” and institutions throughout humankind’s history in this probable version of Earth and time, have insisted that they were “The Way,” indeed the only way towards salvation and truth. Many were shamed, ex-communicated, tortured or killed if they did not follow the dictates of a particular government, religion or philosophy. Seth urges us to refrain from turning his ideas into a doctrine or “ism.” Instead, his ideas of probabilities, be it an event, an idea, a Self or an object, clearly tells us that there is no single understanding or version of an object on this plane. He spent many sessions explaining that each person’s version of a room, chair or specific event was not the same, and that each individual draws upon his own energy in creating his/her personal variation. (See Book 2 of Unpublished material for more about probable versions of “any thing.”)

This idea also applies to one’s personal understanding and application of “The Seth Material.” We can only understand Seth’s ideas according to our unique level of perception and awareness. A 10 year old child will not, as a rule, fully grasp ideas of quantum mechanics as readily as a 38 year old physicist. So it is with Seth’s ideas. We can only understand according to our own level of consciousness and beliefs. How we relate to others, how we live out our days, and how we treat one another exquisitely reflects who we are in the deepest places of our being.

If someone finds themselves in conflict with another’s views or interpretation of Seth’s ideas, did they not, on some level, agree to experience this conflict in order to learn and grow from it? Rather than compete or to discredit another’s views, it is more helpful to look at the particular role one is playing in this conflict, and how each individual drawn into this drama might benefit from such confrontation. Is the other person “wrong” or simply inviting you to reconsider your particular attitudes and beliefs on a certain issue? Is it O.K. to not know everything, and to look once more at yourself and your actions? Why do you believe you were drawn into this situation in the first place? What are you to learn from this experience?

Yet, all too often, people have projected their need to grow and to evolve in value fulfillment onto the “others” participating in this event. After all, I have a degree in….. or I have been a visitor at a Seth session…., or I have written a book…, or …… The lists of “ORs” is very long and keeps us from looking inwardly for the reasons we are involved in this situation in the first place, and from the inner knowing and awareness we need to discover and explore. Yes, pointing the finger out there is easier than looking inside, but it is not what Seth urged us to do, nor does it effectively resolve our challenges. Seth reminded us that “You create your own reality, and that each of us is here to grow.” Not just some of us, but All of us! Let us make Seth proud and show him how well we understand the need for personal responsibility and change.

Moreover, it is not possible to be a practicing idealist if we are judging, blaming, self-righteous and avoiding our own responsibility. Only an honest appraisal of any situation, as well as refraining from labels, arrogance (“I know more than you.”) and judgment, enables an individual to reach the core beliefs and issues behind any experience he/she meets in life. It is always within that our answers, solutions, and value fulfillment are to be found. Out there, is merely a reflection that reveals something about one’s own self, not just the other. We live in a world of projection, and it is our projections that point us in the direction of our greatest growing. Compassion and empathy for one’s self, as well as for the other players in a particular drama or conflict, serves to diminish and transmute pain, shame, fear and blame into value fulfillment for everyone involved. It is the way a Practicing Idealist evolves.

And lastly, Seth has taught me that probabilities are variations and differences, exquisitely revealing who each of us is deep in the core of our being. We are all where we need to be in the moment, we are all learning to use energy to construct our worlds. Each of us is of good intent, alive in a safe Universe. We are here to help one another, and to encourage each person’s journey of discovery. Supporting one another’s value fulfillment into greater awareness and consciousness is the best way to teach Seth’s ideas and to carry them out into the World. Let us make it so!
