Toolbox » Shadow Practices (Psychodynamic)
The Toolbox is a framework to
organize the practices available from Seth, Elias, Kris, Rose, and the world's wisdom traditions. There is overlap between
every module, so some practices listed here may be used in other modules. The
idea is to settle upon four practices that synergize
body, mind, spirit, and shadow and tailor as our goals change. What
is the shadow? Derived from Freudian and Jungian depth psychology, it is
the term for those aspects of self we’ve disowned, buried, and repressed that
we then project onto others. They are often unpleasant aspects we’ve deemed
unacceptable or unlovable. However, they are sometimes the best aspects we
don’t feel worthy of or willing to own. For example, Elias’ acceptance 101 (self) and 102 (others) is a core shadow module to
help “notice, identify, and address to” habitual unconscious thoughts,
emotions, and feelings by making them objects of conscious awareness, where we
can finally reown and neutralize them. Examples:
The “Unknown” Reality, Vol. 1, 2, Amber-Allen, (1997)
·
pay attention to self
(automatic responses) ·
noticing automatic
responses: comparisons ·
noticing communications,
thinking, and doing ·
notice, relax, and do not
judge and do not compare ·
pay attention (noticing,
identifying, recognizing, addressing to...) ·
noticing exposure
(vulnerability)
·
Tuning into Inner, Meaningful
